Niraj takes sole lead

Kayhmandu (03 March 2011)  :-  Niraj Niraula of Jhapa defeated former National champion Surbir lama & Bikash Kuluju of Bhaktapur respectively in the sixth and seventh round to emerge as the sole leader in Martyr's Memorial Open Chess Tournament at Taleju Party Palace here on Thursday. Niraj have 6.5 points out of seven and remains single on the top floor.

 

CM Uttamraj Thapa of Tanahun & former National Champion Punyaman Karmacharya of Kathmandu were placed second jointly, having 5.5 points each.

 

Boys Union Club's Rajan Puri, Dharam Lama of Hetauda Chess Club, National Champion Badrilal Nepali, Fide Master Manish Hamal, Herakaji Maharjan, Prachanda Man Malakar, Bikash Kuluju of Bhaktapur & Shyam Sundar Shrestha of Macchindra Club were joint  In other sixth round encounters, Grandmaster S Arun Prasad defeated International Master Himanshu Sharma while continuing his fine form West Bengal ly placed on 3rd position scoring 5 points out of 7 rounds.

Surbir Lama lost with Niraj – Punyaman Karmacharya lost with Uttamraj Thapa – Bikash Kuluju beat FM Manish Hamal.

Important Results round 7:

                Niraj beat Bikash Kuluju – Uttam drew with Badri Lal Nepali – Rajan Puri drew with Shyam Sundar Shrestha – Unrated Bijenndra Singh lost with Punyaman Karmacharya – Prachanda Man Malakar beat Surbir Lama.
