4th Jugal Kishor Newatia Memorial Rating Chess 2011

GM Sriram Jha Won The Title
GM Sriram Jha of LICI won the title of 4th Jugal Kishore Newatia International Rating Chess -2011 organized by Lions Club of Guwahati Kamrupa by scoring 7.5 points from 9 round and pocketed rupees 45,000/(forty five thousand) as first prize. IM G B Prakash of Tamil and IM Himanshu Sharma of Haryana also scored 7.5 points each but they are declared second and third on the basis of tie-break score. 7 players Arjun Tiwari of Maharstra, WGM Mary Ann Gomes of West Bengal, IM B. T. Murali Krishnan of Railway, Arindam Mukherjee of West Bengal, IM Akshayraj Kore of Maharstra, FM Diptayan Ghosh of West Bengal, Nasir Wajih of Delhi, and IM Atanu Lahiri of LICI scored 7 points each and placed in that order according to their tie break score. In the 9th and Final round GM Sriram Jha drew his games against Nasir Wajih of Delhi but GM R. R. Laxman lost against IM Himanshu Sharma of Haryana. On third board the game between Arjun Tiwari and BT Muralikrishanan ended in draw while in board four IM G B Prakash accounted for IM Atanu Lahiri. WGM Marry Ann Gomes also won her last round game against Himal Gusain but former National Champion IM Suvrajit Saha is held to draw by Rajkumar Apollosana of Manipur.
The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Lion Ajay Choudhury.  Mr. Avinash Joshi, IAS was the chief guest of the prize distribution ceremony. Prizes were given away by Lion Amar Baruah, Lion Mandira Chanda, Lion MP Agarwal, Lion Krishna Chanda , Tournament Chairman Lion Binod Khemka, Co- chairman Lion Sumit Jalan, Lion Sudhir Choudhury, Lion L.P. Matolia and chief arbiter D.S. Moorthy.  Total Rupees 200,000 (Two lakhs) was distributed as prize money among the prize winners.
 Final Round Result:
 1.    GM Sriram Jha of LICI drew with Nasir Wajih of Delhi.
 2.    IM Himanshu Sharma of Haryana beat GM R.R. Laxman of ICF.
 3.    Arjun Tiwari of Maharstra drew with IM BT Murali Krishna of Railway.
 4.    IM Atanu Lahiri of LICI lost to IM G B Prakash of Tamil Nadu.
 5.    WGM Mary Ann Gomes of West Bengal beat Himal Gusain of Chandigarh.
 6.    IM Akshayraj Kore of Maharastra beat A P Joshua.
 7.    Rajkumar Apollosana of Manipur drew with IM Suvrajit Shah of Railway.
 8.    Hemal thnki of Gujarat lost to Arindam Mukherjee of West Bengal.
 9.    Biswajit Nag of Tripura lost to FM Diptayan Ghosh of West Bengal.
 10. Niraj Niraula of Nepal drew with Santu Mondal of West Bengal.
