Asian Zonal 3.2

GM Ziaur Rahaman won Asian Zonal 3.2 Chess Championship

Nepal got one more Fide Master

Bangladeshi GM Ziaur Rahman, who was the top seed to win the Asian Zonal 3.2 chess championship held on 22nd to 28th of march 2011 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He had a total of 7.5 points out of possible 9 games. Ziaur collected a cash award of US $ 1500 with the beautiful trophy and the gold medal. GM Niaz Murshed placed 2nd after tying with FM Abu Sufian Shakil with 6.5 points. Shakil had to satisfy with the Bronze medal on the tie breaker.

Sujendra Prasad Shrestha (2016) of Kathmandu became the third Fide Master of Nepal. He got the title of Fide Master  after scoring 4.5 points out of 9 rounds. He makes a wonderful draw with GM Ziaur Rahaman (2526)  in the seventh round. He scored full points against Sri Lankans Osheen De Silva (1931), Anuruddha GC (2140), Mallabarachchi T S(1984) and Maldives Ahmed Fuad (1817) in the 4th , 5th, 6th and 2nd round respectively. Where he lost to GM Niaz Murshed (2455) of Bangladesh, IM Mahmood Lodhi (2400) of Pakistan, FM Abu Sufian Sakil (2367) of Bangladesh  and Amar Karim (2240) of Pakistan. In the other hand Bangladeshi FM Abu Sufian Sakil (2367) got the title of IM after scoring 6.5 points out of 9 rounds.

In women's category Sachini Ranasinghe (1835) of Sri Lanka shined, becoming the 1st  WIM in Sri Lanka winning the Asian Zonal 3.2 Women's Chess Championship.
